(Melbourne) Affogato Espresso Bar

IMG_2659

Affogato Espresso Bar is one of the numerous restaurants and cafes you see lined up on both sides of Hardware Lane. The food here was decent and the atmosphere is good, and typical of what you would normally expect for breakfast and brunch places in Melbourne. Although there’s no shade outside in case it rains or if there’s heavy wind, it’s definitely still a nice place to sit and maybe people-watch. It opens on public holidays too!

 – General Review –

  •  Service: 7.7/10

Service was generally friendly.

  • Servicescape: 7.5/10

Most of the seats are outside (like most other restaurants on Hardware Lane), where customers get to enjoy the fresh air, unless it’s raining where there’s no shade outside. If you’re not much of a fan of the sun, the indoor seats are probably a better option, although the inside of the restaurant is quite sparse. It provides a very relaxing atmosphere, and you get to enjoy the company of others, as there are normally a lot of people (normally the working class) sitting outside and chatting.

  • Non-smoking area: Seats are mainly outdoor.
  • Vegetarian dishes: Yes, some vegetarian dishes available.
  • Price range: $$ (AU$15 – $18 for most main dishes.)

Overall Rating: 8/10

 – Food Experience –

1) Wagyu Burger:

The wagyu burger was pretty good, although not the best I’ve eaten. The wagyu was very tender and flavorful, although it was quite small compared to the brioche, and I also liked the caramelized onion. The portion wasn’t that big either, with fat chips on the side.

2) Bangers Special:

The dish consisted of pork on polenta hash, which was good but I’m not a big fan of too much polenta because I’d get full easily from it. The sausages are delicious as well, and it is topped with a sunny side up, and some tomato and spinach on the side.

3) Sir Benedict:

The Sir Benedict was well, similar to other Eggs Benedict out there. It was decent but nothing extraordinary.
