I’ve heard plenty of great reviews on Manchester Press so I was really excited to try it out one day. The cafe is located strategically – at the heart of the city close to the GPO and other cafes and restaurants – which is easily accessible and convenient too, since it’s opened everyday. Even from the outside, you could see some people waiting to get a seat since the cafe’s always crowded with people. Also, the food at Manchester Press is relatively cheap compared to other brunch places, although the quality is equally good. It definitely lives up to the name of being one of Melbourne’s top brunch places.
– General Review –
- Service: 8.5/10
Staff were all pretty friendly, even though they’re busy attending to so many customers. Only indoor seats available, and not a lot of variety to choose from.
- Servicescape: 8/10
Medium-sized cafe, not too small, but the place is packed most of the time. It wasn’t very spacious though, which made it hard to navigate inside. The cafe’s a little grungy and dark, with few and simple decorations. A popular place for young adults and adults to chat and hang out.
- Non-smoking area: All seats are indoors and smoke-free.
- Vegetarian dishes: Yes, vegetarian dishes available.
- Price range: $ (AU$7 – $14 for most main dishes.)
Overall Rating: 8.6/10
– Food Experience –
1) Chai Latte:
Even though it was served in a small cup, the Chai Latte was really good. It had a pleasant aroma, was pretty milky, and sprinkled with lots of cinnamon. Loved it! One of the better chai lattes I’ve had.
2) Apple Juice:
Served in a tall glass, the refreshing Apple Juice was fresh, sour, and not to forget – healthy.
3) Slow Cooked BBQ Pulled Pork – Closed Bagel:
Really enjoyed it, the pulled pork was amazing and tender, but a tad bit salty. The pulled pork bagel was also served with coleslaw and pickles, and was quite easy to eat. Came with salad on the side as well.
4) Smoked Salmon – Open Bagel:
Loved it! They served heaps of smoked salmon, and the bagel was delicious and easy to cut. The salad was a little dry, but I really liked the dressing. The portion of the dish wasn’t too big as well, but just right. The smoked salmon bagel was slathered with dill cream cheese and topped with some baby capers. My favorite dish from Manchester Press so far.
