Second post on Two Cents! A couple of nights ago I decided to go to Two Cents to try their non-brunch food for dinner. Their brunch food, coffee, and cakes are considerably good, but my dinner experience that night was quite disappointing. It was almost a full house but a good cafe/restaurant would be able to maintain their quality of food and service. I think Two Cents didn’t manage to do that.
– General Review –
- Service: 7/10
Service was a bit slow, but it was understandable because the place was packed. The staff did manage to keep the place clean and tidy, and their attitude towards customers wasn’t affected by the crowd. Kudos to them!
- Servicescape: 5/10
The atmosphere that night was one of the worst I’ve ever encountered in Indonesia (comparable to the one at Tomodachi Resto). The largest table in the cafe was occupied by a large group of adults and they were polluting the cafe with unbearable noise. It’s not the cafe’s fault and this leads me to wondering if restaurants and cafes would one day start managing even the noise level of customers. Is that feasible? I sure hope so.
- Non-smoking area: Yes. The indoor area is non-smoking, but they do have an outdoor area for the smokers.
- Vegetarian dishes: They’ve got several salad choices and some other delicious dishes that are meat-free.
- Price range: $-$$ (Rp 18.000 – Rp 60.000 for food & drinks)
Overall Rating: 5/10
– Food Experience –
1) Aglio Olio with Smoked Chicken
This is the dish that probably saved the night (just a bit). The smoked chicken taste was not covered by any other tastes, pasta was cooked just right, and it wasn’t too oily. However, I think they lacked a bit of garlic and put too much cheese. I think it would be better if they let customers add their own cheese to their pasta.
2) Baked Rice with Chicken:
I couldn’t believe they served this in a restaurant. A major disappointment. The rice tasted like they cooked it with bad quality packaged fried rice spices (Bumbu Nasi Goreng). It was literally just rice and a bit of egg and nothing else, not even frozen vegetables! The only part that tasted ‘baked’ was the cheese on top of the rice. The chicken was cold and bland. The rice was probably fried and not baked. Bad bad bad.
*It was so tasteless that tomato sauce had to be added.
Conclusion: Go to Two Cents if you want to enjoy a cup of coffee, with or without cake, or have brunch, or a little snack. I feel that the main dishes are risky, and unless you’re a huge fan of Aglio Olio and have a high tolerance level for any kind of Aglio Olio you might encounter, then do yourself a favour and order that. I would go and try other main dishes and see if there is anything redeemable. But, that won’t happen anytime soon.
