If there’s something else you should pick up in Melbourne besides its coffee culture, it’s brunch. Melbourne has quite a heavy brunch culture and you’ll be spoilt for choice over there. You’d find many people sitting around in cafes and restaurants between morning and noon, and one of the popular places is Chez Dré. It’s located in the Southbank area – where it’s just enough for you to feel the presence of city life amidst the tranquility and peacefulness.
– General Review –
- Service: 8/10
The staff are friendly and quick with their service. Before you might have even decided on what you’d like from the menu, the waiters/waitress will come up to you and ask if you’d like anything to drink.
- Servicescape: 8/10
There are both indoor and outdoor seats available in Chez Dré. Even when you’re sitting outside, there are huge umbrellas to shade you from the sun and rain. The atmosphere is relaxing with a lot of natural light and overall, a very outdoor feel.
- Vegetarian dishes: Yes – There are a few choices available in the breakfast and lunch sections. There are even gluten and nut-friendly options for many dishes.
- Non-smoking area: Yes
- Price range: $$ (AU$10 – $24 for breakfast and lunch menu) I haven’t really had the chance to try the dessert here, but I’d love to someday and will definitely share my experience here.

– Food Experience –
1) Cold Brew Coffee:
I’d have to say because I prefer my coffee with milk, I’m not exactly a big fan of the cold brew coffee since I found it quite bitter without any milk. But it tasted really refreshing, didn’t leave a bad after-taste, and the bottle looks so nice.
I would recommend the mocha, and just most of the coffee here. It was fragrant and it had the right amount of milk so the coffee taste wasn’t too strong. Bottom line? Loved it!
3) Moroccan Baked Eggs:
The Moroccan Baked Eggs reminded me of goulash at first glance. The dish looks exotic and was full of flavour and spice, consisted of lamb sausages, egg, some salad, tahini yogurt and sauce. The baguette also went well to balance out the taste, and the lamb sausages were so tender!
4) Eggs Your Way:
The poached eggs were perfect, but what really stood out for me was the croissant. (You can choose between croissant and toasted sourdough) It was amazing. That’s got to be one of the best croissants I’ve ever had – it wasn’t too floury or doughy, and it has a nice crispy touch to it.
